WHITE-THROATED SPARROW

Sightings for Saturday, October 14th

A pelagic trip off Iona featured close looks at a juvenile LONG-TAILED
JAEGER, a POMARINE JAEGER, 4 PARASITIC JAEGER, 6 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and a
WANDERING TATTLER, heard from the North Arm Jetty. At the Grebe Islets, at
least 200 SURFBIRD were seen.

In Queen Elizabeth Park, there was no sign of a PHILADELPHIA VIREO, but
there was an unidentified foreign species of finch in the same area that may
have escaped from the conservatory. Also in the park were at least 6 HERMIT
THRUSH and a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW. Another WHITE-THROATED SPARROW
continues to be seen at a feeder in Port Moody. Details are provided with
the October 12th sightings.

Sightings for Friday, October 13th

A NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD was seen between the Boundary Bay Airport and
adjacent greenhouses. In Queen Elizabeth Park, a bird fitting the
description of a PHILADELPHIA VIREO was seen in a birch tree east of the
conservatory.

A NORTHERN SHRIKE was seen in Deer Lake Park in Burnaby. 2 more NORTHERN
SHRIKE were seen on River Road in Tsawwassen. At Serpentine Fen was a
PEREGRINE FALCON.

Sightings for Thursday, October 12th

In Port Moody, a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW has been frequenting a feeder at 433
Culzean in the Glenayre area. The feeder is visible from the front yard and
the bird frequents the area under a red maple. The owner welcomes birders to
respectfully use the property to view the bird.

In Delta, over the Alex Fraser Bridge, was a TURKEY VULTURE.

Out of town, the GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE was still present in Kelowna.

Sightings for Wednesday, October 11th

In an additional report for October 10th, at the Iona South Jetty Tip, the
BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was again seen as well as 6 PARASITIC JAEGER, 5
LAPLAND LONGSPUR and a PEREGRINE FALCON at the ponds.

On October 11th, the Kittiwake could not be found among large numbers of
BONAPARTE'S GULL and COMMON TERN, but 5 PARASITIC JAEGER were present.

At the Tsawwassen Jetty were a WILLET and a BLACK OYSTERCATCHER. Nearby, at
the Roberts Bank Jetty, was a late CASPIAN TERN.

Out of town, in Kelowna, the GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE remains at the Orchard
Park Mall.

Sightings for Tuesday, October 10th

In the sky over South Surrey were 10 SANDHILL CRANE, while over Stanley Park
were 225 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE.
