While everyone was quick to point out that your Jays are either
Stellar's or Scrub Jays, no one told you how to help solve your
"problem".
Instead of just putting out bird seed on the deck table and rail, you
need to buy some bird feeders. Check with your local audubon chapter or
phone book for your nearest bird feed and supply store (stay away from
department and warehouse stores). Wildbird centers are great. Or check
out the internet for stores if you don't have any local birding stores.
They can get you up to speed on what types of feeders and bird seed you
will need. There are many feeder designs made to keep larger aggressive
birds from getting all the seed. But don't exclude the Jays completely,
they are a beautiful and interesting bird as well. The trick is variety
of seed choice and placement of specialty feeders in different parts of
your yard.
