The Secret Lives of Birds and Birders
--An Evening with Kenn Kaufman
Author of Birds of North America and Kingbird Highway

Kenn Kaufman-- author, painter, and birder-extraordinaire--comes to
Seattle to share his outlook and his insights on birds and birders and
birding. As one of America's foremost birders, Kenn is a field editor at
Audubon and a regular contributor to every major birding magazine.

Kenn's interest in birds is longstanding and unusually intense. Kenn hit
the road at age sixteen, and hitchhiked back and forth across North
America, traveling eighty thousand miles in a year, simply to see as
many birds as he could. Kingbird Highway was the book he wrote about
those early travels. Now, a few decades later and with much of the world
under his belt, he has many stories to tell about the birds and the
birders he has met. This will be a very interesting night!

Kenn will be available to sign his excellent new field guide, Birds of
North America, just released by Houghton-Mifflin. This is the first
field guide in decades that is intended not for the expert but for
anyone curious about the natural world. Birds of North America combines
photographs and state-of-the-art digital editing to make sure that bird
identification is accessible to everyone. Frank Gill of the National
Audubon Society says, "Wow! Bird identification made easy!" Copies will
be on sale that evening.

Doors open for book-signing at 7:00PM. The presentation and slide show
start at 7:30PM, Kane Hall, Room 120, on the University of Washington
campus. You'll find convenient parking in the parking garage--enter off
15th NE at NE 41st.

Tickets go on sale Wednesday, September 13th. Tickets are $15 and can
be purchased from the Seattle Audubon Society by calling 206-523-4483
from 10:00AM-4:00PM, Monday through Saturday. They may also be purchased
at the door, however seating is limited. Please join us for this special
