tweeters,

I am a birder from "the other Washington" who will be attending a meeting
in seattle Oct. 25-28 and will have a day free to look for birds, and
would be grateful for any suggestions regarding places to look for "wish
list" species within a half-day's drive.

highest on my wish list is blue grouse. I am also interested in other
gallinaceous birds, especially mountain quail and white-tailed ptarmigan,
as well as owls, especially short-eared, great gray, pygmy, and western
screech.

also fervently wished for are some northern species: rosy finch,
black-backed and white-headed woodpeckers, and bohemian waxwing.

In addition, of interest would be any recent sightings of vagrants such as
yellow-billed loon, bar-tailed godwit, or sharp-tailed sandpiper.

I would also appreciate information regarding any local birdtrips in the
area on Saturday Oct. 28, as well as any ideas about how to look for
pelagic species. also, which books would be useful? I have MacRae's
Birder's Guide to Washington (1995).

apologies for any duplication due to cross-posting. thanks very much for
your help.

rob
