Hi Tweets,

During a recent hike in the Cascades, at a low elevation of about 2,000 feet,
I saw a feather that had two white, vertical spots, and I wondered if it
might be from a spotted owl (an obvious conclusion to jump to for a novice, I
know!). But since the feather appeared on USFS land, an area vulnerable to
logging, perhaps my finding could be used to beef up protection for these
woods.

The predominantly gray feather was about 3 inches long; the spots, which
appeared in the middle of the feather, were 1/2 inch and 1/4 inch long. The
spots were also heart-shaped.

Thanks!
