Tweeters: the road closed last week nightly (after 5pm) just past the
campground and I beleive the whole road to sunrise will be closed for the
season sometime near the 22nd of October or unless the weather rapidly
descreases before then. On the other topic of using tapes to bring owls in
close. Of all the owls I've observed at night I am proud to say I've never
even brought a tape recorder with me. I like to use the 'sit quietly and
wait patiently approach'. I will every now and then whistle or hoot softly
to get responses of the owls I'm looking for and without a doubt that works
much easier then waiting. But if I do use that approach, once I get a
response I don't call out anymore. I prefer to have the owl think that it
scared away the intruder from it's range. Now as for Boreal Owls......I have
yet to see or hear one so who am I to talk???? Bryan Mathews, Orting,
