Subject: Question re: Distribution of Mountain and Puget Sound

Hi. I'm looking for information regarding the distribution of Mountain and
Puget Sound White-crowned Sparrows in the southern Wenatchee National
Forest. I am a biologist at the Institute for Bird Populations, and am
currently working with some data from several MAPS mist-netting and banding
stations that we operate in the region. We have both captured and
encountered (i.e., heard singing) White-crowned Sparrows at several
stations, but there is some confusion as to whether the individuals were of
the Mountain or Puget Sound subspecies group.

Our stations are located on the east side of the Cascade crest, in
Spruce/Fir, Alder riparian, and montane meadow habitats. They are in the
southern end of the Wenatchee National Forest, near the eastern entrance to
Mt Rainier National Park; the closest towns are Goose Prairie and South
Cle Elum.

If any readers have information regarding the distribution of the
White-crowned Sparrow subspecies in this region, please e-mail me at:
nmichel at birdpop.org. Thank you for your assistance!

Sincerely,

Nicole Michel
