The Rare Bird Alert for BAR-TAILED GODWIT continues.

Sightings for Monday, October 23rd

The BAR-TAILED GODWIT, first seen October 22nd was again seen at the outer
west end of the Roberts Bank Jetty on the rising tide and once again at high
tide at Canoe Pass, near the old cannery pilings.

In Point Roberts, 8 HEERMAN'S GULLS and a SPOTTED SANDPIPER were seen.

At the Iona outer pond were a TUFTED DUCK and 10 WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS in
the blackberry bushes.

Sightings for Sunday, October 22nd

In late reports for October 21st, a female HARLEQUIN DUCK was seen at the
Iona outer pond. In the vicinity of the Maple Ridge Golf Course, a GREAT
GRAY OWL was seen being harassed by crows.

On October 22nd, a BAR-TAILED GODWIT was seen at low tide at the base of the
Roberts Bank Jetty. In the fields nearby and just off 34th Street were 4
SANDHILL CRANES, a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD, a WESTERN GULL, a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

>From the Iona Jetty comes reports of a SNOW BUNTING, a LAPLAND LONGSPUR and
2 PARASITIC JAEGER.

At Colony Farm, a ROUGH -LEGGED HAWK was seen and at Rocky Point Park in
Port Moody, there were 2 AMERICAN DIPPER at Noons Creek mouth.

Sightings for Saturday, October 21st

At the Iona Jetty were 4 ANCIENT MURRELET, 4 PARASITIC JAEGER, 1 LONG-TAILED
JAEGER and 4 COMMON TERNS while at the Iona Outer Ponds were 1 TUFTED DUCK
and an EARED GREBE.

A Raptor Survey of Sea and Iona Islands netted a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a
PEREGRINE FALCON. Another 2 ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK were seen near Reifel Refuge
as well as 2 SANDHILL CRANE and 3 SHORT-EARED OWL at Brunswick Point.

An Osprey was seen at Blackie's Spit.

At the Tsawwassen Jetty were 2 BLACK OYSTERCATCHER and a WILLET while at the
nearby Roberts Bank Jetty were 2 RED KNOT, a MARBLED GODWIT and a ROCK
SANDPIPER.

Sightings for Friday, October 20th

At the Iona outer pond were two TUFTED DUCK and an EARED GREBE. A VESPER
SPARROW was seen on Iona Beach in the grassy area north of the jetty base. A
PARASITIC JAEGER was seen from the jetty.

Out of town, the GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE continues at the Orchard Park Mall in
Kelowna.

Sightings for Thursday, October 19th

At the Iona outer pond were a TUFTED DUCK, a RING-NECKED DUCK, an EARED
GREBE and 4 REDHEAD while on the Iona South Jetty, there were 6 PARASITIC
JAEGER and a COMMON TERN.

In Stanley Park, a TOWNSEND'S WARBLER was seen and in Ladner at 34th and
River Road were 4 SANDHILL CRANE in a corn field.

Sightings for Wednesday, October 18th

In an additional report for October 17th, at the Iona South Jetty, 4
PARASITIC JAEGER and 1 LONG-TAILED JAEGER were seen.

On October 18th, there was a PARASITIC JAEGER at the Iona South Jetty and an
immature TUFTED DUCK at the outer ponds. A SHORT-EARED OWL was seen at the
south end of 72nd Avenue in Delta as well as a MERLIN at Kensington and
Curtis in Burnaby and a PILEATED WOODPECKER at the Burnaby Mountain Golf
Course.

Sightings for Tuesday, October 17th

In Port Moody, at Noons Creek, there was a GREEN HERON near the hatchery as
well as a SPOTTED SANDPIPER

Sightings for Monday, October 16th

In late reports for October 15th, the following birds were seen:
At Colony Farm, 4 VIRGINIA RAIL, an AMERICAN BITTERN and a ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK.
At Blackie's Spit, an OSPREY and a PEREGRINE FALCON.

On October 16th, a CRESTED MYNAH was seen at 2nd and Columbia in Vancouver.
At the Iona Ponds were a PEREGRINE FALCON, an EARED GREBE, a PECTORAL
SANDPIPER and a late CINNAMON TEAL, while from the South Jetty a LAPLAND
LONGSPUR and 6 PARASITIC JAEGER were seen as well as a LITTLE GULL seen in
flight heading to the west.

The out of town GREAT-TAILED GRACKLE is still present in Kelowna.
