Raptor Count for
Chinook Valley, Pacific Co., WA

I went across the river to see how the fall/winter raptor
numbers were shaping up for the season. I found 5 WHITE-
TAILED KITES at least 2 appeared to be hatch-year
individuals. I talked to a guy who was scouting for
WAPITI who also leased the pastures there before the
State of Washington began their rehabilitation efforts in
the area. He said they were present all summer.

I also saw a dead BARRED OWL on the Columbia River bridge
(Oregon side).

The Count:
Bald Eagle 1
White-tailed Kite 5
Northern Harrier 3
Red-tailed Hawk 6
Peregrine 1

288 CANADA GEESE were in the pastures at the west end of
Chinook Valley evenly mixed between Cackling and Taverner's.
