As Michael Willison described, it was not a good week end for weather or for
TROPICAL KINGBIRDS at Ocean Shores. I was at least hoping for a PALM
WARBLER in the Scotch Broom near the marina, but no luck there either.

But the week end was not lost. Saturday at high tide I enjoyed a BAR-TAILED
GODWIT at Tokland on the dock a few feet away from me. For 90 minutes I had
good looks both on the dock and in the air as the birds were flushed by
fishermen and returned to the dock. It looked like a juvenile to me. It
was the only Bar-tailed among about 200 MARBLED GODWITS. In the mix were 13
WILLETS and one AMERICAN AVOCET.

Today (Sunday 10/29) as I left Ocean Shores I made a stop at Cyber Lake. In
the tree at the entrance to the trail, lo and behold, there was a PALM
WARBLER. Bright yellow under tail coverts, and pumping its tail as if there
were no tomorrow. Whodathunkit?

Other highlights of the week end:
Swan: 11 in flight over Damon Pt
Greater White-fronted Goose: 4 at the Ocean Shores STP w/ 2 Cacklers
Semi-palmated Plover: 1 at the base of Damon Pt
Least Sandpiper: 1 at the base of Damon Pt w/ DUNLIN, SANDERLINGS,
and WESTERN SANDPIPERS
82 species in all.
