Took a walk around Greenlake on Sunday, 10/29/2000. It was
light birding, as we had the baby with us (so when she was fussy,
we didn't stop to look at birds). Still a good day.

Of note was a group of about 8-10 AMERICAN WIDGEON, which is several
more than Martin Muller noted in his survey last week. I suspect the
numbers will continue to grow over the next week or two to the normal
winter numbers (around 100).

Also, we had a presumed COOPER'S HAWK near the Bathhouse Theater. I say
presumed because it flew overhead at high speed, with several CROWS in
hot persuit. Based on the size (in relation to the crows) and the length
of the tail, I believe it was a Cooper's - but I am pushing my high-speed
raptor ID skills here. I got one other glimpse of it, swooping over the
trees south of the Bathhouse Theater, with a couple of dozen more crows
having joined the chase.

The Bald Eagle was reported by other walkers, but we didn't see it.

look like to a bird?' I have to answer 'You will
never know, you cannot know.' It's like asking
what the music of bats sounds like"
