We bicycle along the Sammamish River Trail every once in a while and
always keep a list of the birds there. Our trip from Marymoor Park to
Bothell Landing on Saturday, September 2 produced an interesting mix of
bird life, incuding a few we have never previously seen there. An asterix
indicates first sighting for us along the trail.

Pied-billed Grebe
Great Blue Heron
Canada Goose (on the river and flying over)
Mallard (many)
Coot (only one)
Killdeer (several flying and calling near Woodinville)
Glaucous-winged Gull (flying along river)
Red-tailed Hawk (several atop snags)
Osprey (flying north along river)
Rock Dove
Vaux Swift *
Belted Kingfisher
Northern Flicker (heard)
Downy Woodpecker * (male, on small snag)
Barn Swallow
Steller's Jay (heard)
American Crow
Black-capped Chickadee
American Robin
Cedar Waxwing (several)
European Starling
Song Sparrow
Brewer's Blackbird
Western Tanager * (probable fall male, brilliant yellow breast, dull green
back)
Goldfinch
House Finch
