> The site is located at 9,200 above sea level, 25 miles south of
> Wendover, Nevada, just west of Utah's Great Salt Lake Desert. This it
> the 18th consecutive year of observations and 21st consecutive year of
> banding.
>
> Yesterday, 9/4, was looking to be a 175-200 bird day, with a 15-20 mph
> wind blowing most of the day under sunny skies with ~15% cloud cover.
> Several great looks at rufous- and dark-morph RTHA on 9/3 and 9/4.
> The banders caught their first Golden Eagle of the season on 9/3 and
> second Northern Harrier on 9/4.
>
> On the evening of 9/2 and the morning of 9/3, a Bureau of Land
> Management-Elko District helicopter crew successfully air-lifted
> water, food, and other supplies to the top of the Goshute ridge, so
> the crew is now set for the season with supplies. Water was running
> low, evidenced by the fact that site cook Dave Main hiked up 10
> gallons (80 lbs.!) of water on 9/1. Also aboard the airlift were
> "robolures" developed by our friends at the Golden Gate Raptor
> Observatory. Four of our Goshute 2000 field crew members have worked
> at GGRO in the past, and Mark McCaustland will be leading the effort
> to field test robolure in the Goshutes. We are also looking forward
> to Buzz Hull of GGRO visiting the Goshutes in late September.

> HawkWatch's 2000 Goshutes crew of full-season observers, banders,

> McCaustland, Kathrin Poetter, Chris Neri, Deneb Sandack, Kirsten
> McDonnell, Helena Kokes, and Dave Main. We look forward to the help
> of several other folks who will be visiting during the season. Mail
