Subject: "hawkwatch" report

Hi Tweets,

Broadwing numbers are very slowly inching up in the northeast and central
parts, but not the thousands yet. Shouldn't be long. I know, I read too
many hawkwatch reports and then want to tell everyone all about them, but
one today especially caught my eye:

The hawkwatch at the Hitchcock Nature Center in western Iowa overlooks the
Missouri River Valley. Today they reported a rather slow day with a low
raptor count and high heat (what's that?) BUT, and I quote "Even though the
raptor flight died a premature death, there were some impressive non-raptor
totals for the day: 2 Caspian Terns, 956 American White Pelicans, and 228
Red-headed Woodpeckers.

I would have gladly gone to that hawkwatch just to see the pelicans and
woodpeckers! They did see 25 turkey vultures, too. :-)

Cheers, Diann
