Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday September 21. If you have anything to add call

On September 18 and 19 a CURLEW SANDPIPER was at the South Jetty of the
Siuslaw River. On September 14 a BROAD-WINGED HAWK passed the Bonney
Butte HawkWatch Station southeast of Mt. Hood. A RUFF was among the
shorebird swarms at Summer Lake September 13. On September 16 a STILT
SANDPIPER, a SANDERLING, and 3 SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were there.

Heavy migrations continue with both kinglets, MERLINS, and LEWIS'S
WOODPECKERS being conspicuous during the week.

An UPLAND SANDPIPER was near Port Orford September 16. On September 15,
21 COMMON TERNS were on the North Spit of Coos Bay. 25 were at the South
Jetty of the Siuslaw River September 18. An ELEGANT TERN was there the
next day.

On September 15 over 3500 CASSIN'S AUKLETS were flying south off Boiler
Bay. Eight WESTERN SCRUB-JAYS were in Seaside September 16. A LARK
SPARROW was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River September 13.

On September 14 a STILT SANDPIPER and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER were with
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS near Vancouver Lake. Several hundred SANDHILL CRANES
are now on Sauvie Island and Ridgefield NWR.

On September 16 a COMMON TERN, a FORSTER'S TERN, a RED-NECKED GREBE, and
3 COMMON LOONS were at Timothy Lake south of Mt. Hood. A couple of
ROSY-FINCHES and a BOREAL OWL were in the Three Sisters Wilderness Area
September 16.

On September 14 a STILT SANDPIPER, a SANDERLING, a PRAIRIE FALCON, and 40
COMMON TERNS were at the Baskett Slough NWR near Salem. On September 16 a
SABINE'S GULL was at the Sheridan Sewage Ponds and another was at the
Philomath Sewage Ponds.

An evening roost of over 250,000 BARN SWALLOWS was found during the week
along the Willamette River two miles south of Dayton. A BLACK-CROWNED
NIGHT-HERON was over Albany September 17.

A group of 6 WHITE PELICANS was on Agate Lake near Medford September 16.
A RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at the Wood River Wetlands near Agency Lake
September 16. Another was seen that day near the junction of Highways 97
and 31 near LaPine. A COMMON TERN wast Wickiup Reservoir south of Bend
September 16.

On September 16 a very unexpected 15 PURPLE FINCHES were at Cabin Lake.
