by Cameron Eckert in Whitehorse. There are usually only 1 or 2
messages per week, so it won't clog your inbox.

This week's goodies in the southern Yukon include RED-THROATED PIPIT,
RED PHALAROPE, SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER, and YELLOW-BILLED LOONS
(details below).

GOLDEN EAGLE UPDATE:

Just a heads up to let you know that golden eagles that I radio-tagged
last
year are heading your way. One eagle was near Kluane Lake yesterday
and
should be passing over Whitehorse soon. Three others are on the
way. These birds are moving about 20 days earlier than they did last
year
as juveniles.

RECENT SIGHTINGS:

A juvenile RED-THROATED PIPIT was a cosmic mind-bender in Whitehorse
on
September 18.

A juvenile RED PHALAROPE in Whitehorse on September 18 provided just
the
second southern Yukon record.

A juvenile SHARP-TAILED SANDPIPER was in Whitehorse on September
18-19.

A male EURASIAN WIGEON was in Whitehorse on September 18.

All four Yukon loons were on Lake Laberge on September 21 with at
least two
YELLOW-BILLED LOONS.


VOLUNTEER REQUEST

Help clean-up the Quartz Road Wetland

A volunteer work party is being scheduled for Saturday, September 30
starting at 10 a.m. Depending on the number of volunteers, the work
may go
fairly quickly. Volunteers are encouraged to bring out a pair of work
gloves, shovels, and rakes if possible. Please let me know if you can
come
out and lend a hand, even if just for a short while! I can be
