Last year Minolta came out with an 8x42 waterproof (JIS 6),
phase-corrected roof. I compared them the the Pentax at Captain's and
liked the image better than the Pentax's, and the price is about $100
less. I bought a pair as a gift for my sister and brother-in-law.

Bausch and Lomb Discoverer models are waterproof and cost in the $300
range mail order, $400 range locally, but I can't really recommend
them. I have these, and I have been planning for months to upgrade and
unload them or relegate them to kayaking or glove-compartment use. The
image quality is a far cry from the phase-coated roofs, and they have a
glare problem when facing the sun. With the declining cost of
phase-corrected glasses, it's hard to imaging how bins like these can
stay on the market.

The Swift Eaglet 7x36 waterproof is very favorably reviewed, at least
for a non-phase-corrected roof. I have never looked with one.

Perhaps she meant waterproof *porros*?
