Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday September 28. If you have anything to add call

A DOTTEREL was found September 24 on the deflation plain at the South
Jetty of the Siuslaw River. It was reported through September 26.

A CURLEW SANDPIPER is now at Bandon Marsh. A male SUMMER TANAGER was at
the P Ranch in Malheur NWR September 20. On September 23 a BROAD-WINGED
HAWK flew over a hawk watch station on the east side of Upper Klamath
Lake above Hagelstein Park. A possible LITTLE GULL was seen September 23
off parking lot D at the South Jetty of the Columbia River. It was not
relocated.

On September 17 a STREAKED SHEARWATER was off Cape Lookout, a PARAKEET
AUKLET was off Seaside and another was off Curry County; and an
XANTUS'S/CRAVERI'S type MURRELET was off Pistol River. All were observed
from a cruise ship about 50 miles offshore.

Very heavy migrations were reported during the week with VARIED THRUSHES,
FOX SPARROWS, and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS the most obvious. There were
several westside lowland reports of MOUNTAIN CHICKADEES. The VAUX'S
SWIFTS are now peaking with about 30,000 at Chapman School in Portland;
20,000 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, and 2-3000 in Silverton.

Three PACIFIC-GOLDEN PLOVERS were on the North Spit of Coos Bay September
25; a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was there September 22.

An ARCTIC TERN and a KITTIWAKE were at the mouth of the Siuslaw River
September 22. A SCRUB-JAY was at a Waldport feeder September 25.

An offshore boat trip out of Newport September 23 found among the regular
species 244 FULMARS, 153 BULLER'S SHEARWATERS; 3 SKUAS; and an ANCIENT
MURRELET.

A YELLOW-BILLED LOON was seen flying past Boiler Bay September 22. An
ELEGANT TERN was there September 25; two ANCIENT MURRELETS were there
September 26; and a LONG-TAILED DUCK was there September 27. One or two
LAPLAND LONGSPURS have been at the South Jetty of the Columbia River all
week.

On September 24, 64 GREAT EGRETS were at Ridgefield NWR. A RUFF was at
the Fernhill Wetlands in Forest Grove September 24. On September 25 at
least two PYGMY NUTHATCHES were west of the Cascades near Williams south
of Grants Pass.

A PARASITIC JAEGER was near Moore Park in Klamath Falls September 22.
Three SABINE'S GULLS and a SANDERLING were along Highway 205 at mile post
19 north of Malheur NWR. September 23.

If you are looking for PINYON JAYS a flock has been hanging around
Sisters, mainly near the Treewind Shopping Center. Large numbers are also
at Cabin Lake, north of Fort Rock. On September 24 a flock was at the
unusual location on the west side of Waldo Lake in the Cascades.
