Well, after counting crows all morning, I decided it was, indeed, time to
start turkey vulture monthly reports for those of you interested. And,
wonder of wonders, I got no Condor reports today!

Following are turkey vulture reports for British Columbia, Washington, and
Oregon for March, 2001:

01 - 1 at Florence, Oregon; 5 at Eugene, Oregon; 1 at Deer Park near Port
Angeles
02 - 4 soaring over south Whidbey Island; 1 south of Sultan
03 - 1 along SR 109 and 1 at the Ocean Shores Game Range; 1 at Guemes Island
05 - 1 at Bay Center
06 - 1 east of Conway; 1 at Yaquina Bay, Oregon
07 - 1 at east Port Angeles
08 - 2 on the Sunshine Coast (Sechelt), B.C.
11 - 2 at the western end of Nanoose Bay, B.C.; 1 southeast of Port Angeles
12 - 2 over the beach near Lantzville, B.C.
13 - 1 over Bainbridge Island
14 - 1 perched in a cottonwood between Falls City and Carnation
15 - 1 near Starbird Road (?)
16 - 1 teetering in the winds above Seattle (4th & Bell); 1 at Astoria
17 - 2 in the Columbia Gorge east of Bingen; 20 near Madras, Oregon
18 - 1 just north of Olympica
19 - 2 south of Tillamook, Oregon
20 - 15 on Deer Park Road; 6 near the Sequim Costco; 4 at Port Angeles; 6
over the Wakesiah Valley, B.C. (west of Nanaimo); "TVs" soaring over Orcas;
2 north of Sequim
21 - 1 flying over Chimacum; one headed north over Whidbey Island, never
flapping and ignoring a dead chicken put out for its snack
22 - 2 at Sargent's Bay, north of Sechelt, B.C.
23 - 2 over central Whidbey Island; 1 in Lewis County
24 - 3 at the north end of Bainbridge Island; 22 at Deer Park; 1 on Fir
Island; 4 at Detroit, Oregon
25 - 1 near Keyport being pushed northward by a strong wind; 115 at
Medford, Oregon; 4 at Sauvie Island, Oregon; 2 at Cle Elu; 2 near Bowerman
Basin; 1 over the Port Orchard airport
26 - 3 at Nehalem, Oregon
27 - 7 near Paulina, Oregon
29 - 1 east of Sprague; 11 "soaring wonders" north of the Fall City-Redmond
Road
30 - 9 at Brownsmead, Oregon
31 - 4 over the Wakesiah Valley, B.C.; 1 over the Seven Springs Dairy Road
(?); 1 at Belfair
"late in the month" - 21 at east Port Angeles


Many of these observations were "first of the season" sightings. Thanks
