While birding Skagit-Samish Flats yesterday from late morning to early
afternoon, I found 77 species, highlights including two COMMON YELLOWTHROATS
in song at the Skagit WMA headquarters, my first of the season; among many
raptors, an adult GOLDEN EAGLE soaring over Samish Flats just to the east of
the Samish T; and my first CASPIAN TERN at the mouth of the Swinomish Slough
as viewed from the road to March Pt. Greater Yellowlegs are also on the
move as typical for this date, with birds found at a couple of flooded
fields. Savannah Sparrows are now widespread singers on territories
throughout. But no luck on finding a Say's Phoebe, though.

Also: at least a few of the WILD TURKEYS reported awhile back from near the
Samish River bridge remain in the area. On March 25, I had two near the
Samish T, and the county Audobon newsletter indicates several sightings east
of I-5 as well during the month. Also on March 25, some 15,000 SNOW GEESE
were concentrated in the fields along Maupin Rd. near the Jensen access, and
many were still there yesterday.
