hello tweets,

i went back to the same place today where i saw "spot" (as i have
christened her) yesterday. she was there, sitting in a tree and
staring down suspiciously at me while i stared up at her white
belly. she (?) has an obviously dark cap on the top of her (?) head
with an obvious dark stripe through her (?) eye. the rest of her (?)
head is a medium-tone grey. her (?) breast feathers have white tips
on some of them -- not all -- and she has an elliptical white spot
on her belly that extends from the middle of her chest to her tail.
are female robins this variable in their markings and colorings?
or is this gal extra special? (i guess this is what i get for looking
so closely at a robin, finally!).

anyway, she was still there, hanging out in a tree. i also saw a
handsome male feeding nearby and a half dozen bushtits were going
bezerk immediately above my head and there were two very guilty-looking
crows right there. i suspect that the crows were up to some mischief,
but i was too busy staring at the robin to pay much attention to them.
the chickadees were also a little bit upset, probably because of the
crows as well.

isn't it amazing how much we miss, even when we are looking?
