Hello Tweets,

Today my mother and I birded a few hours in the Olympia area, as the weather
was fairly good, with only a few scattered showers in the vicinity, at
times, but we managed to do some birding at a few area locations starting at
East Bay, where we relocated the male leuistic Red-winged Blackbird in a
extensive marsh, along with several Red-winged Blackbirds, as it foraged
throughout the cattail marsh, as it had been noted in spring of 2000. The
tide was fairly low, but we managed to locate a single CASPIAN TERN, 1 1st
winter GLAUCOUS GULL(quite dark, unlike most paler 1st winter birds), 2
GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 2 offshore EARED GREBES, among more common waterbird
species.

Next, at Black Lake Meadows, we walked around the perimeter of the main
pond, as the water level is very low, being only the 8th of April, then a
walk along Percival Creek, as a few notable species were observed including:

2 Turkey Vultures
3 Virginia Rails
3 Common Snipes
6 RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKERS(including one male trying to enter an active
Chestnust-backed Chickadee nestsite, then chased off , and harassed for
several minutes, as an active sapsucker hole was being used nearby in the
same Big Leaf Maple tree.
1 Brown Creeper(personal record for our list for this location)
2 Common Yellowthroats
2 Lincoln's Sparrows

14 GREATER YELLOWLEGS were noted along Mud Bay Rd., as they foraged in the
saltwater channels, being also viewed from Hwy.101, at the south end of Eld
Inlet.

Good birding,

Ruth and Patrick Sullivan
