Jim,

Where have you been? There's a little army of us out there counting these
Common Crows every month - for a year - and John Marzluff and his students
have been doing all sorts of interesting crow studies for several years,
much of it mentioned on Tweeters. My feeling has always been that more
good can be done for a species - consider crows and turkey vultures - if
they are studied in depth while they are still abundant and studiable. I've
found that the lay person, or 'general public,' if you will, is more than
happy to cooperate, especially when a bird is large enough and visible
enough for them to see, hopefully appreciate, and then register as
something worthwhile. In nine years of vulture monitoring at Salt Creek,
only twice has someone been adamantly anti-vulture. Hopefully, crow studies
will add more to the positive side of their image.

Great photo!

Cheers, Diann
