Thanks, Mike, for the interesting post on this subspecies of Branta
canadensis. I seriously doubt anyone will visit them in the Semidi
"Islands", which lie 50 miles or so SW of Kodiak Island in the Gulf of
Alaska. I visited the website, pulled up the map, and zoomed in to
where the map scale topped out at 500 feet and still no islands
appeared, so they can't be much more than rocks. Why thy geese would
choose to live there is beyond me. But the picture on the website
showing the geese in their winter range in the Nestucca Valley of Oregon
is a beauty.
