There are still several thousand Brant in Lummi Bay, many in long lines,
some in sporadic bunches on the mud flats, and many in loose groups on
the water. But, on Monday afternoon I saw a true raft. Hundreds of them
were crammed together in a tight circle with a wide area of open water
around them. They were too far out and it was too windy to distinguish
noise that may be coming from that particular group. If that is a raft,
I have only seen surf scoters is loose groups (several feet apart)
sometimes 50 or 100, but most often in groups of 2-10.
