Subject: Fw: [SEABIRD] Aleutian Islands, Kiska, seabird field assistant
Date: Apr 12 17:59:55 2001
From: Jon. Anderson and Marty Chaney - festuca at olywa.net

Dr. Ian Jones is searching for a field assistant to work for 3 months on
Kiska Island in the Aleutians. I didn't take the opportunity to go for one
of these kinds of jobs when I was young and unencumbered, and now doubt that
I'll ever get the opportunity to see the flora and fauna of that part of the
world. Sigh....

Please contact Dr. Jones, rather than me.

I'm looking for one field assistant to help (on three month contract
starting about May 10-15; collaborative project involving my research
group at Memorial University and Alaska Maritime NWR, US Fish and Wildlife
Service) with research on auklets at Kiska Island, Aleutian
Islands, Alaska, USA. This is on short notice because funding has just
appeared. Pay is $4,000US plus all expenses covered from Canada
or USA.

The study concerns the impact of introduced Norway Rats on demography of
Least and Crested Auklets and will involve auklet
capture-mark-recapture/resighting, productivity monitoring, a survey of the
colony site, and searches for evidence of rats, based at a
small camp on the rugged Kiska volcano where several million auklets nest.
Applicants should be physically fit and have a demonstrated
ability to work in remote location in rugged terrain with cold, windy and
wet weather.

Applicants should send me an e-mail indicating their interest, with cv
attached, as soon as possible.
