Tweeters,

Here's a post from Joyce Meyers in Woodinville re: Robinson Canyon and elk.

Unfortunately my first Robinson Canyon message zipped out of my mailbox
before I'd completed the message.

The gate to Robinson Canyon will probably be unlocked some time during the
last two weeks of May, after the elk have moved out of the area.

Regarding the barricade further up the road.......the Robinson and Ainsley
Creek Roads are closed and expected to be abandoned. Both roads washed out
last spring in several places due to their proximity to the creeks. Two
roads were opened up to provide continuing access -- the Page Ridge Rd.,
which takes off to the north and ties into the Page Canyon Rd. and the
Robinson View Rd, which takes off to the south and ties into the ridge road
above Ainsley Creek. These roads are rougher than the Robinson Canyon Rd.

A green dot map for the LT Murray is available by calling the regional
office
in Yakima at 509-575-2740.

This information was obtained from Cindi Confer, LT Murray/Wenas Wildlife
Areas Manager.

By the way Teweets, elk are responsible for closure of Hardy Canyon at this
time, also.

Am I the only one who is thoroughly aghast that the WDFW in Region 3 is so
thoroughly dominated by elk management?. If anyone else out there has
observed the widespread "Weediffication" and trampling of our subalpine
meadows and seeps, on account of elk, it's time to make a strong case for
thorough and unbiased carrying capacity studies in the Yakima Basin to get
this problem addressed. By the way, some biologists in the WDFW staff agree
with me 100% but are afraid to speak up, as elk are so important
economically in Region 3.
