This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Apr 13 (2001). This hotline,

TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS are continuing to be seen at the Para Ponds northwest
of Othello, Adams Co WA. From Othello go north on Broadway (west end of town
extending north from WA 24) past the processing and storage facilities, SVZ
and cubing plant. When the road crosses the RR tracks it becomes McManamon
Road. Continue across the canal and down the hill past the two potato sheds.
The Para Ponds are just beyond on both sides of the road. WA DeLorme 53,

You can also check for TRICOLORED BLACKBIRDS in Grant Co WA where they have
been reported the past couple of years. The birds have been seen from the
overlook along road 22 NE east of WA 28. To get to there from Soap Lake,
take WA 28 east toward milepost 73. Just east of milepost 73, turn north
onto road 22 NE toward Marlin. Go 1.9 miles to the large pullout on the
north side of the road. WA DeLorme 69, A-8.

In western Walla Walla Co WA on 7 Apr were 5 ROSS'S GEESE and 200 GREATER
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE according to Bob Norton. The birds were in and around
the ponds and the corn field at milepost 300 along US 12 near McNary NWR. WA
DeLorme 40, C-1. Just a little farther south along US 12, just north of the
jct with US 730 at the Walla Walla River Delta, Bob Norton saw 8
BLACK-NECKED STILTS, 100 or so DUNLIN, 5 AMERICAN AVOCETS, and 9 CASPIAN
TERNS. The delta can be accessed 0.1 mile north of Madame Dorian Park.
There's a pull-out along US 12 at milepost 306.9 and a path to the delta. WA
DeLorme 40, D-1.

A male EURASIAN WIGEON was at Mann Lake east of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co ID on
9 Apr according to Bob Norton. On the 11th Keith Carlson (KEC201814 at aol.com)
added a single TRUMPETER SWAN and 4 SNOW GEESE and Brian Jamison
(Jami9197 at aol.com) saw 2 AMERICAN AVOCETS. From the north end of Lewiston,
follow US 12 south into town, cross the Clearwater River on Memorial Bridge
and immediately take the first left (east) toward East Lewiston. Turn left
(east) onto East Main Street and go about a half mile to the flashing yellow
lights. Turn right (south) onto Lapwai (a.k.a. Lindsay Creek) Road. When the
road forks stay right on Lindsay Creek Road (Nez Perce County Road 460) and
follow it about 5 miles to its terminus at Grelle Avenue. Turn left (east)
onto Grelle Avenue and just past the sharp right curve, turn left (east)
onto East Powers Avenue (a.k.a. Lapwai Road). Continue straight (east) past
the grain towers to the main parking lot. ID DeLorme 54, A-1.

The vocal BARRED OWL continues to be heard in Genesee, Latah Co ID according
to Terry Gray. Terry has been hearing the bird nearly every night for the
past 7 weeks, particularly between 8 and 10 pm. It seems to prefer the dense
trees at the corner of Hazel and Pine. If you enter Genesee from US 95, Pine
Street heads north just after the grocery store. ID DeLorme 58, C-1.

A mostly winter-plumaged HARRIS'S SPARROW is still persisting at my feeder
about 5 miles south of Moscow, Latah Co ID.

An adult, summer-plumaged "Vega" HERRING GULL was on Lake Coeur d'Alene,
Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai Co ID, just west of North Idaho College on 3 Apr
according to Van Truan. To get there from the intersection of US 95 and
Northwest Blvd on the south end of CdA, take Northwest Blvd southeast about
0.5 mile and turn right onto Lincoln Way. Go one block and turn right onto
River Avenue. Follow River Avenue about 0.25 miles to Rosenberry Drive which
runs along the top of the dike along the Spokane River. See A Birders' Guide
