Hi Tweeters
Yesterday, i heard some noise on the side of my house. When I went to see what it was, a nuthatch was inside of the chickadee nest box. This nest box has had
chestnut backed chickadees using it for the last 4 years.
The nut hatch was chipping away on the entrance hole!!! Nuthatches like the entrance to be 1 1/4 inches instead of 1 1/8 that the chickadees like, so she was making it bigger!! I guess it will be a nuthatch nest box from now on!!!
Looking in a book I have, called Woodworking for Wildlife, it says that nuthartches rarely use nesting boxes!
Went to Sequim yesterday afternoon to check on the eagles. There are three eagle nests with eagles in them brooding their eggs! You can barely see the head on the eagle that is sitting on the nest!
We are close to the brandt geese leaving. I usually eat my lunch at Hudson Point in Port Townsend. The numbers of Brandts have been decreasing from about 300 down to 65 or so. There were about 300 out a ways, at Three Crabs , in Sequim, yesterday. I checked back in my records, the last two years. Last noted any 4-19-00 and 5-9-99. I enjoy these geese
