Hi tweets,
I birded bits and pieces of the above counties on
Saturday, starting early Saturday morning looking for
owls. Not a bad day. I ended up seeing or hearing
131 species despite getting a blown out tire and being
stuck in a ditch on Crab Creek road for three hours.
It took 8 people lifting the front end of my car and
someone else pulling it with a pickup to get us out.
Highlights included:
Brandt's Cormorant: Still one near the Edmonds
fishing pier.
Pelagic Cormorant: One flyby at the Edmonds
Waterfront
Swainson's Hawk: An intermediate morph bird on Dodson
road just south of Frenchman hills road.
Turkey Vulture: Twelve birds perched in a tree off
I-90 exit 80, on the road towards Roslyn.
Greater Yellowlegs: One at the montlake fill. It was
along the dirt road which leads to the gravel parking
lot.
Glaucous Gull: On the lawn in front of Mercer Hall
near the University bridge.
Williamson's Sapsucker: A male and a female near
Roslyn.
White-breasted Nuthatch: Same place as the
Williamson's Sapsuckers.
Say's Phoebe: One pair at the west end of Crab Creek
road, near Beverly.
Loggerhead Shrike: Several along Crab Creek road.
Palm Warbler: Montlake Fill
Common Yellowthroat: My first of the year. Also at
Montlake.
Black-throated Gray Warbler: One at the Deer Creek
Fish Hatchery in Edmonds.
White-throated Sparrow: Shoreview Park in Shoreline.
Vesper Sparrow: Dodson road, south of Frenchman Hills
road.
All in all not a bad day, but I didn't go to a lot of
places I wanted to due to the time. Notable misses
which were looked for included:
Sage Sparrow, Sage Thrasher, Tricolored Blackbird (at
para ponds in Othello), Long-billed Curlew, and
Burrowing Owl (NE of George)
