We watched a Red-Tailed Hawk on the Skagit River this winter feeding on a
salmon carcass. It did seem rather odd......

Subject: Carrion Eating Red-tailed Hawk
I had seen Bald Eagles eating road kills. Today, just out on the county
road here at the place, I observed an immature Red-tailed Hawk on a Sunday
morning bunny kill. I hadn't previously seen Red-tailed Hawks even return
to a grouse they'd killed and dropped when my vehicle appeared they were
unable to take flight fast enough to suit them with the heavy load.
Was this carrion visit uncommon behavior as I suspect?
