Monday April 23, 2001, 7:35 a.m. Hi, this is Stephen Mlodinow. This weekend, Dennis Duffy and I birded on Whidbey Island on Saturday and also
(inaudible) to Snohomish County. On Sunday, we did the Skagit Game Range, birded (inaudible) other parts of Fir Island. Lot of birds, but very little
unusual. Perhaps the most interesting bird was a bird with all of the characteristics of a Prairie-race MERLIN on Fir Island. From the Jensen Access on Fir
Island, go west. The road will then bend to the north. Follow the road. You'll go past a large house on a mound in the field. Continue past that house to
the north, and on your left, which will be to the west in the middle of the field, is where the bird was. It was perching consistently on the ground. Good
descriptions of this race can be found, among other places, in Sibley's new guide. Other birds of note was a SLATE-COLORED OREGON JUNCO at the
Skagit Game Range. We had WHIMBREL on several places on Whidbey Island, and a first YELLOW WARBLER for me of the season on Whidbey
Island as well on Saturday. That's about it. Good luck and good birding.

Saturday, April 21, 2001, 1:01 p.m. This is Douglas Marshall. 206-270-8960. This morning, Sunday, the 22nd, I went for a walk in Discovery Park. On the
north beach, I observed a single WHIMBREL. It was up near the high tide line in the sand. It was 9:45. The location was at the west end of the North
Beach wetlands. It flushed and flew off to the southeast.
