Columbia Estuary Report - 4/24/2001

Two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were at the Lewis and Clark Rd pond
today along with both GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS. About
40 WHIMBREL are using the pastures at Wireless Rd. A LONG-
BILLED CURLEW was there today.

Several VESPER SPARROWS have been seen at Wireless Rd and at
Brownsmead with the large migrant flocks of SAVANNA SPARROWS,
and GOLDEN-CROWNED SPARROWS.

An obvious movement of HERMIT THRUSHES has been evident for
the last few days. BLACK-THROATED GRAY and WILSON'S WARBLERS
are now easy to find.

A male SHARP-SHINNED HAWK was carrying food (looked to be
a Chickadee) and acting suspicious at the Neawanna Wetlands
on Saturday.

OLD-TAILED DUCKS and SURFBIRDS were seen at the Seaside Cove.
Several GRAY WHALES have been putting on quite a show there
with highly satisfying close approaches.
