I checked out the nest boxes this morning about 11 and saw no Purple Martins, just one female house sparrow below the boxes and several in the trees next to the beach club.

Thanks very much for the Ballard purple martin report; all the wooden nest boxes are sealed to exclude house sparrows, but two gourds are open. The earliest I can get out to open boxes is with a ladder during the low tide on Thursday. That's where I'll be spending my lunch hour that day.

I didn't expect to see them in Ballard till mid to late May!
