The Sage Thrasher was back today (1300 hrs)at the waterfront area at Port
Stalashen in Wilson Creek at the bottom of Field Road. Coming from Vancouver
that will be the second left off Hiway 101 shortly after the speed limit
reduces to 60 about 2 km after the Roberts Creek Provincial Park entrance .
Park in the lot by the Stalashen office and work the front edge of the
gravel flats above the estuary . Today it was on the left side of the middle
berm, but on the weekend was seen more on the right side in amongst lumber
stacks and clumps of broom.
Keep your eyes open for Killdeer nests when walking in the area, as well as
a recently fledged Killdeer from one of the early nests (1 out of 3
survived). There is also an active Kingfisher nest off to the right in a
large dirt pile. Yellow Throats also in the broom.
