Astoria Airport Mitigation Bank, Clatsop County, Oregon
Sparrow transect 1530-1630hr
April 25, 2001

I saw a hummingbird at the bunker on Airport Rd this
afternoon that was probably a BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD
female. I cannot categorically exclude ANNA'S, however.
It had a green back, white throat with single dark
center spot, white breast and belly with no rufous or
buff. Tail had large white tips on r3-r5. Rects were
otherwise dark with no rufous. The lack of greenish wash
on the flanks, the elongated body shape, the flat looking
tail shape (and other gizzy things) have me leaning toward
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD.

I also saw a MOURNING CLOAK on territory, flying back and
forth along the sparrow rd.
