Birding in the rain this afternoon at Discovery Park, I again noticed banded
Song Sparrows. This time I had pad and pencil, and was able to record the
band colors. The question now, is there anyone with whom I should be
sharing this data? If so, who and how? Any help with name, phone or e-mail
would be appreciated.

One of the birds observed had both feet severely misshapen. The left foot
very thick and fleshy looking and had only two toes that formed a crab like
claw. This foot was the only one used during perching. The right foot was
more difficult to observe since it was pulled up and out of sight except
when about to take flight. This right foot was bent back so far that it
could not be used to grasp a branch. It was used for balance on the ground
and to push off when taking flight. This bird appeared health and was
singing. I wonder if the bird was crippled before it was banded. I hope the
banding experience did not contribute to this condition.
