hello tweeters,
sad news to report about the jetty island little gull: while linda wakeman and i birded there today, we were asked by a park ranger to identify a dead bird. our examination left us thinking it was a juvenile little gull. we brought the bird in to dennis paulson, who confirmed our identification.
there were good numbers of shorebirds there: BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS, SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS, LEAST SANDPIPERS, WESTERN SANDPIPERS, and SANDERLINGS. also saw several CASPIAN TERNS.
still worth a trip out there, although distressing to know the little gull is no longer around.
