Thursday, August 2, 9:31 PM - This is Steven Mlodinow. I went up the West 90
Samish Ponds Jensen Acess today. Shorebird numbers seem to have dropped
compared to the last few days. Highlights were all at the West 90, including
two juvenile WILSON'S PHALAROPES, two juvenile RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, and an
adult AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER. That's it. Good luck and good birding.

Sunday, August 5, 10:05 PM - This is Steven Mlodinow. Today Dennis Duffy and
I birded from Whidbey to Skagit and Snohomish County. We had 104 species.
The main highlight was a PACIFIC GOLDEN PLOVER that was near two HORNED
LARKS on the Samish Flats. These birds were not at the now famous West 90
ponds, instead they were along Bayview Edison Road just after you drop down
to the flats coming from Bayview on the water side of the road. The GOLDEN
PLOVER was about halfway between alternate and basic. There were also a
bunch of KILDEER in that field to use as a reference point. Otherwise, we
had three SEMI-PALMATED SANDPIPERS at Crockett Lake, a SEMI-PALMATED
SANDPIPER at Cultus Bay, two broods of LESSER SCAUP near Useless Bay, one
brood found again up at Stanwood Sewage Ponds. We had a BANK SWALLOW at the
West 90 ponds and another BANK SWALLOW at the Stanwood sewage ponds. That's
it. Good luck, and good birding.
