I spent the weekend camping at Twin Harbors State
Park, just south of Westport. Not a lot to report
there, mostly or all typical species. After seeing
very few birds during a morning walk on 8/5 to the
beach (no shorebirds) and back by way of the nature
trail (highlight was a family of COMMON
YELLOWTHROATS), I arrived at our campsite on the east
side of highway 105 to find lots of birds in the
vicinity, including a pair of BLACK-THROATED GRAY
WARBLERS and 2 male WILSON'S WARBLERS. An OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER sang nearby as well.

At Westport (8/4) highlights were 40 BROWN PELICANS
and about a dozen HEERMANN'S GULLS.

At Tokeland on 8/6 we arrived close to high tide and
noted a large mixed flock of MARBLED GODWITS and
WHIMBREL on island at The Marina. While I was inside
asking permission to go out on the dock for a closer
view (to look for bar-tailed godwits), the flock
flushed and flew around, then off towards the west.
Scanning the island, I noted a PEREGRINE FALCON
sitting on a rock at the south end. We ate lunch
there but the flock never returned. On the beach near
the white boat house on stilts (south of The Marina),
7 WILLET and a single WHIMBREL rested.

A hearty thanks to all who offered advice on the area.
