Sightings for Thursday, August 9

An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen around 7:30 this evening on the dike about ?
mile east of the foot of 104th on Boundary Bay. The bird was observed for
about 5 minutes before it flew north over the cornfields.

The female WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER, found yesterday, was again present today
along Camp McKinney Road, E. of Oliver. To search for this bird drive to km
10, the traditional Gray Flycatcher area, and cross the cattleguard.
Continue to a second cattleguard near km 11. Soon after you will find a
small gravel pulloff on the right. The woodpecker was observed here and
along a gravel side road just past the pullout, feeding in the Ponderosa
Pines. This sighting is significant since White-headed Woodpeckers are
rarely found again after their initial discovery.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen near 72nd & Scott Rd. in Surrey.
