This is Kas Dumroese with the Northern Idaho / Eastern Washington /
Northeastern Oregon bird hotline for Friday, Aug 10 (2001). This hotline,
sponsored by Palouse Audubon, is updated every Friday evening. If you wish
to bypass this recording and simply leave a message for me, including the
date of your sighting and the DeLorme atlas page numbers and coordinates if
you have them, push the star button on your telephone now. Otherwise wait
for the beep at the end of the tape. Please give me good directions, your
fellow birdwatchers will appreciate it.

A male COMMON GRACKLE was at Two Rivers County Park near Kennewick, Benton
Co WA on 8 Aug according to Dennis Rockwell. The molting bird was coming to
his backyard feeder. Two Rivers is located along the Columbia River east of
Kennewick. From WA 397 head east on Finley Road 1.5 miles to the parking
area. WA DeLorme 39, C-8.

An extremely early ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK was drifting over Pullman, Whitman Co
WA on 5 Aug. I saw the bird around 5 pm on the western edge of Pullman being
harass by assorted blackbirds.

There were a few scattered reports of scattered shorebirds. Hopefully we
will all find some time to check Mann Lake near Lewiston, Nez Perce Co, ID,
the Reardon Ponds just north of Reardon, along US 2, west of Spokae, WA, and
the Walla Walla River Delta just north of the jct of US 12 and US 730 in
western Walla Walla Co, WA. Now is also the time to start looking for
southbound gulls and jaegers on the big lakes in northern Idaho.

My personal thanks to Charles Swift and Dave Holick for filling in for me
during my extended summer recess.

If you have any questions about birds on the report, call me before 9 pm at
208.883.0943. If you see any of the birds mentioned in this report, be sure
to let me know.

Good birding.
