Sightings for Saturday, August 11

The WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER in the Okanagan was not seen today. For further
updates on this bird phone the Okanagan Bird Alert at 250-491-7738.

The GREAT EGRET reported yesterday from Langley's Brydon Lagoon, near the
intersection of 53rd & 200th was again seen today along with a GREEN HERON.

In a late report for Friday, the UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen in a field east
of the Mansion on Boundary Bay. The Mansion is located between 88th & 96th.
This is a different location from the initial sighitng on Thursday the 9th
but is the same general area.

Friday, August 10

The following report is courtesy of the Okanagan Valley, Rare Bird Alert.

For the third day in a row the female WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER was seen on
Camp McKinney Road, E. of Oliver. To search for this bird drive to km 10
crossing the cattleguard. Proceed to a second cattleguard near km 11. Park
at the gravel pulloff on the right just beyond this second cattleguard. The
woodpecker is working the pines alongside the road here and along a small
gravel side road on the left just beyond the pullout. It was seen at 8:30 AM
and again near 12:00 PM.

A GREAT EGRET was seen at Brydon Lagoon near 53rd & 200th in Langley.

Thursday, August 9

An UPLAND SANDPIPER was seen around 7:30 in the evening on the dike about ?
mile east of the foot of 104th on Boundary Bay. The bird was observed for
about 5 minutes before it flew north over the field.

A female WHITE-HEADED WOODPECKER, was seen along Camp McKinney Road, E. of
Oliver.

A COMMON NIGHTHAWK was seen near 72nd & Scott Rd. in Surrey.

Six COMMON TERNS were observed on a Langdale Ferry sailing.

Wednesday, August 8

A female WHITE- HEADED WOODPECKER was discovered at approximately km 11 near
noon along McKinney Rd. east of Oliver in the Okanagan.

At Beach Grove Lagoon was a WHIMBREL.

NW of Coquitlam's Lougheed Mall were 1 COMMON NIGHTHAWK & an OSPREY.

>From Burnaby's Deer Lake RP came the report of 2 SOLITARY SANDPIPERS & a
TURKEY VULTURE.

At the foot of 96th on BB was a RED KNOT. Seen near the Mansion were a
WHIMBREL and a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER.

Tuesday, August 7

The REEVE was observed near the Mansion from the Boundary Bay dike.

The GREAT EGRET continued at Willband Creek Park in Abbotsford.

A female WHITE-TAILED PTARMIGAN was seen with 3 chicks on a hike to
Williamson Lake, which is a tarn lake below the peaks of Welch and Foley in
the Cheam range. This lake is at 1655m/5430ft and involves a 5-7 hour
return hike. Also seen at the lake was an AMERICAN DIPPER.

Monday, August 6

At the foot of 104th on Boundary Bay was an adult PARASITIC JAEGER. Also in
the area was an OSPREY and a RED-NECKED PHALAROPE.

The GREAT EGRET was reported from Willband Creek Park near the intersection
of Hwy 11 and Bateman Rd. in Abbotsford.

A WILSON'S PHALAROPE was reported from the Reifel Refuge.
