Steven Mlodinow noted a Bewick's Wren at Washtucna and speculated about
their range in e. WA. Bewick's Wrens are now found in several locations in
Whitman Co. away from the Snake R. They have been present at Rose Creek
Preserve near Kamiak Butte for several years and are presumably nesting at
that location. This past winter, one was noted regularly at a farm west of
Spokane where area birders were stopping for a small flock of A. Tree
Sparrows that was present for much of the winter. Bewick's Wrens are now
considered to be common in the Lewiston/Clarkston area and have been
expanding north away from the Snake/Clearwater river valleys for several
years. They are regular around Moscow and Pullman and have been reported
from locations around Lake Couer d'Alene (Idaho panhandle) from time to
time. Within the past year an individual made it to Missoula, perhaps
travelling up the Clark Fork River.

thanks, Charles.
