Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This
report was made Thursday August 16. If you have anything to add call

Offshore boat trips out of Newport August 10 and 11 found large numbers
of shearwaters, including early BULLER'S SHEARWATERS, FORK-TAILED
STORM-PETRELS, SABINE'S GULLS, COMMON TERNS, PARASITIC JAEGERS, two SOUTH
POLAR SKUAS and an XANTUS'S MURRELET.

Large flocks of SOOTY SHEARWATERS were reported along the coast during
the week with 125,000 at the South Jetty of the Columbia River August 15.
That day 130 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS and smaller numbers of PIGEON GUILLEMOTS
and MARBLED MURRELETS were off Boiler Bay.

RED-NECKED PHALAROPES, BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS, and SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were
reported from many areas during the week. On August 13 a BUFF-BREASTED
SANDPIPER was at Ten Mile Estuary in northern Coos County.

The BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continues to be seen at Brookings. An
ASH-THROATED FLYCATCHER was south of Bandon at Langlois August 11. A
migrant WESTERN KINGIRD was at the South Jetty of the Columbia River
August 11. A COMMON TERN was on the North Spit of Coos Bay August 13.
Four MEW GULLS and 8 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were at Yaquina Bay August 13.

An AVOCET was at the Mollala Sewage Ponds August 13. A SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHER was there August 15. A MARBLED GODWIT is now at Fern Ridge
Reservoir.

A pair of BARRED OWLS were at the Cold Springs Campground near Sisters
August 10. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was in eastern Crook County August 12.

Last week-end a RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was at the P Ranch in Malheur NWR.
