My family and I spent a few days in Ocean Shores this week and although I never get in a lot of birding when on trips with my family we did take some drives and I was able to do a little birding from the beach. The weather was cold and cloudy, not exactly what we were expecting.

We drove up hwy 109 towards Moclips and off of Benner road just before it reaches Griffith-Priday State Park I found one GREAT EGRET. At Roosevelt Beach there was a PEREGRINE FALCON harrassing the small flock of peeps on the beach.

I went golfing with my husband ( I don't golf so I was just along for the ride) but there were no shorebirds on the bottom nine of the course.

At the jetty I ran into Ed Deal who helped me with my rusty seabird IDs and confirmed for me hundreds of SOOTY SHEARWATERS. I had seen them north of the jetty also off of the beach where we were staying. (Near Polaris St.) Also at the jetty, besides the many gulls (California and Heermann mostly) I saw 3 RUDDY TURNSTONES and Ed pointed out a WANDERING TATTLER which was wandering away from us very quickly.

On the beach where we were staying there were numerous SANDERLINGS, WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 1 LEAST SANDPIPER. Also many BROWN PELICANS flying past. CASPIAN TERNS abound carrying fish.

Our vacation to Ocean Shores wasn't quite what we were expecting because of the weather but still fun and relaxing.
