Saddle Mountain State Park, Clatsop County, Oregon
August 18, 2001, 0830-1500hr

Sean Burgett and I went up to Fox Creek again to do so
more for amphibian abundance work. Sean managed to find
a larval PACIFIC GIANT SALAMANDER as well as quite a few
DUNN'S SALAMANDERS both of which were not found on our
last trip. We also managed to find a juvenile Dicamptodon
without gills that we believe is a COPE'S GIANT SALAMANDER.
The terrestrial form of Cope's Giant Salamander is very
rare (fewer then a dozen records). Stay tuned for the
photographs.

Things were suprisingly quiet on the bird side of things.
Mostly CHESTNUT-BACKED CHICKADEES and GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLETS.
We did hear the deliberate pecking of a PILEATED WOODPECKER
and saw lots of fresh holes. We also heard GRAY JAYS.

Mike Patterson Alas, to wear the mantle of Galileo,
Astoria, OR it is not enough to be persecuted
celata at pacifier.com by an unkind establishment,
you must also be right.
