Tweeters,
A short note for anyone interested in White-tailed Ptarmigan. A group of
four (Marvin Cooper of Seattle, Dorothy Kopp and her friend Brian of
Vancouver B.C and Glacier Wa. and myself) visited Ptarmigan Ridge on Mt.
Baker yesterday. About a mile down the trail we encountered three
juvenile birds that were feeding voraciously on flowers and succulent
young leaves. We were able to observe the birds at close range as they
cut across both sides of the trail. We marked the spot with a cairn on
the right hand side of the trail by a boulder. The boulder is the very
close to the edge of the trail just before a nice field of alpine
flowers. Also we marked Pt in the corner of the boulder. Hopefully this
will be obvious for those who are interested in trying for these birds.
Good luck.
