Hi Tweeters,
Long Lake County Park in south Kitsap County continues
to be productive in the evening hours for GREEN
(BACKED?) HERON. Last weekend I reported seeing one
there at about 2 hours before sunset. At the time I
thought I saw two, but when I spotted the second bird,
of course the first one had moved off, so I reported
just one. Yesterday evening, both were out in plain
sight, and even squabbling over some fishing territory
along the shore. Both were immature birds, and they
stayed around long enough for we to get an excellent
30 minute look. There were also the usual suspects, a
KINGFISHER, several BARN and TREE SWALLOWS, one
KILLDEER along the shore, and a constant chorus of
CHICKADEES in the woods. The best viewing spot tends
to be the fishing dock, just south of the main park
area. Follow the gravel road into the woods beyond
the parking lot.
Good Birding!
