Subject: Marymoor Park Report (Redmond, King Co. WA), last Wednesday, 8/15/01

Sorry for the belated report.

We had a really lousy day last Wednesday, with a pathetic species count, and
nothing much to report. The best bird was a GREEN HERON; to be expected at
this time of year.

After everyone else had given up, Brian Bell and I went over to the Rowing Club
(Marymoor West) and added 5 more species, and some of the best too.

There were around 15 BLACK SWIFT flying just west of the Parkway, all with
plumage looking VERY worn. We also STELLAR'S JAYS, a pair of CALIFORNIA QUAIL,
a HOODED MERGANSER on the north pond, and three HAIRY WOODPECKER juveniles (we
assumed) near the boat launch ramp.

Even with those additions, we had only 37 species on the day.

Tomorrow WILL be better.
